If you love traditions, discover the most important events of Alcúdia during Holy Week
Easter is a time for traditions in many places across Spain, and it is in Alcúdia too. The town in Northern Mallorca remembers the Passion of Christ devotedly on the Holy Easter days. So, if you are passionate about traditions, at Sea Club we tell you about the different acts which you will be able to enjoy over Easter, beginning on Palm Sunday and ending on Divine Mercy Sunday. Write it down!
Palm Sunday celebrations begin with the Procesión del Silencio (silent procession) which starts at the Mare Déu del Carme i Sant Pere church and walks along the main streets in Puerto de Alcúdia.
Holy Thursday and Good Friday are the most important Easter days. The brotherhoods bring out their decorated statues and their penitents go out into the streets and through the old town, surrounded by thousands of believers.
On Easter Sunday, the celebrations reach their peak. During that day, the Encuentro procession takes place. Everyone knows it as Els Tres Botets (the three bounces). It gets its name because the statue of the Virgin bounces three times, happy to see Resurrected Christ.
On Easter Tuesday the Pancaritat takes place in the chapel of La Victòria. The residents of Alcúdia visit the chapel to worship the Virgin and enjoy panades and robiols, snacks that are typical on these dates.
The celebrations end on Divine Mercy Sunday, with another Pancaritat in the Cova de Sant Martí, in which the Ciutat d'Alcúdia Choir takes part. It is the final Easter event in Alcúdia.
